What is vermiculite?

Vermiculite is a natural mineral that expands into light, airy granules when heated. This structure allows vermiculite to absorb and retain large amounts of water and nutrients, releasing them gradually to plant roots.

Vermiculite as a soil improver

When mixed into potting soil, vermiculite:

Application and mixing ratios

• Potting soil: 10–30% vermiculite

• Sowing: pure or 50% vermiculite / 50% seed compost or worm compost
