The worm farm originally started from my lifelong hobby of growing plants. Worm castings are essential when cultivating healthy plants. In primary school, I was already selling home-grown plants on King’s Day and later to local garden centres. Since the worm farm is no longer just a hobby, I now grow tomatoes indoors during winter under LED grow lights.

To my surprise, this works extremely well — we can harvest fresh tomatoes at home all year round. If you'd like to try it too, these LED grow lights make it possible. I use them at home myself

Seed Starting

Grow lights make seed starting much easier. They give your seedlings a strong head start, allowing you to begin sowing many vegetable plants as early as January or February.

The LED lights consist of 4 modules. You can connect 1, 2, 3 or all 4 lamps. This gives you complete flexibility in how you set up your lighting. You can create one long lamp or arrange them in pairs. This way, the setup fits in any growing area and you only use the power you need — each lamp uses just 8 watts.

Tomatoes

I successfully grow tomatoes under these LED lights. I position the lamps so they almost touch the tomato plants. After a few days, the plants grow right up to the lamps. I hardly experience any leaf burn. The lights run 12 hours on, 12 hours off.

For even better flavour (and free sunlight), I now keep my grow rack near a south-facing window. This is optional — you can grow tomatoes perfectly fine without direct sunlight.

It is important to choose a compact tomato variety. I grow them in worm castings, lava meal, and supplement with guano.

Microgreens, cress, herbs (basil, thyme, mint), leafy greens (lettuce, chard, kale), berries (strawberries, blueberries), succulents, cacti, vegetable seedlings (tomato, cucumber, pepper), and others — sweet potato, corn, luffa, and many more.
