Fodder radish is a two-in-one crop. First, it is a fast-growing, deep-rooting green manure, growing to a height of 80-110 cm. Its thick taproots improve aeration and drainage in the soil. When the crop is ploughed in, it adds a lot of organic matter to the soil. The plant is therefore a soil improver in all respects.

The crop develops quickly after sowing, so it rapidly suppresses weeds. This is its second important feature. Moreover, fodder radish is also grown as a minerals catch crop and to protect the soil from wind erosion.

Fodder radish can be sown from spring until the end of summer. It is suitable for sowing on fallow land and in the stubble (after the harvest of a cultivation crop). When the crop is three-quarters in bloom, it should be mown to a height of 25-30 cm. The plants will then regrow.
