Onion 'Rijnsburger 4' produces nice round, straw-yellow onions, which are excellent to store. As soon as the foliage starts to die, the onions have to be pulled up.
Onions have a long growing period. Early sowing, i.e. March to mid-April at the latest, is therefore important. Sowing later gives a better chance of onions with thickened stems. Row spacing 25 cm, thin out at 5 to 10 cm. Placing strongly fragrant plants such as chamomile, savory and carrots in the immediate vicinity of the onions could have a disruptive effect on the onion fly.
As soon as the foliage starts to die off in September, the onions have to be pulled up. The bulbs must be able to dry well. The onions can be stored well into spring, provided they are kept cool and dry. Keep so-called big necks separate and eat them first.
