What is a compost tube?

The Compost Tube is a round earthenware container measuring up to 48.5 inches long and in diameter and 14 inches high. You place the Compost Tube in the garden in areas where the plants could use a little something extra.

Instructions for use

Find a spot in the garden or vegetable garden that does not get sun all day. Dig a hole in which the Compost tube fits and sticks out about 3 cm. The holes should be at least below ground level. Put a few handfuls of dry leaves or growing soil in the compost tube. Add water to make everything nice and moist. For a flying start you can add compost worms 250 grams is enough. Put the lid on and you are start ready.

How much can the compost tube handle?

This depends on the biodiversity in the beds and how many worms are in the garden. The healthier the garden the faster the process will go. Temperature is also an influence. Typically a 2-3 person household can keep filling the Compost Tube.

Bury in a spot without all-day sun, leaving about 3 cm exposed. Add dry leaves or bedding and water, cover and feed kitchen waste; 250 g composting worms is optional.
